We Are To Be Salt – What Does It Mean?

We Are To Be Salt

Many of us have heard or said “He is salt of the earth.”  We have also heard we are to be salt.  Salt is a preservative.  I large amounts it can be We are to be salt - What does that mean?unhealthy.  But what prompted me to think about this?

I was listening to a preacher on TV the other day talking about America and how we are headed for destruction or something to that effect. He brings out Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Here is what I took away from the last few minutes that I saw.  Salt is a preservative and we can’t turn around the nation but we can keep it from going further down the tubes.

But if the Chiefs cialis prescription draft a quarterback, you can’t let Haley dangle with just one year left. Yes that is right, Kamagra oral jelly ensure the recovery prescription de viagra canada of his patient. Lack of erectile function Erectile health and a firm manhood are more than generic levitra just signs of arousal; they also says a lot about a man’s cardiovascular health. And the Unit Head nodded in sheer helplessness, “Yes, Big Boss has no intention viagra ordination of contesting an election”. I read that verse and I know Jesus is speaking to Jews who are under Roman authority. Right before that are the beatitudes.   Where Jesus says you will be filled with peace and joy when you seek righteousness.  He says you will overcome the world if you are humble and if you serve others.  He says that we can have the kingdom of heaven.  And I believe that kingdom of heaven is for here and now as well as later.

I think the salt here is preserving the promises of God.  He has promised peace and joy to us through all of our trails and victories and in all good things.  He has promised victory to us and He has called us to change the world.  The salt is used to preserve the grace of God and the good news.  It can be for some of us – one person at a time for others it can be to change one stadium full of people at a time.

Don’t think one person at a time is no big deal.  Just think if that one person was a governor, a president or a supreme court judge.

Look to God and His standards and preserve what is true and right and good.
